Complete Description of Data Integration

CDIF aims to describe the full process of data integration, although that is not entirely possible with the current profiles. This section provides some additional information regarding how CDIF has approached this topic. In the near term, we are looking at the description of mappings, so that they become a truly FAIR resource. This involves tracking some of the developments in this area within the FAIR community broadly, such as in the RDA FAIR Mappings Working Group.

What we do currently cover in CDIF is the description of data sets and structures, and some further discussion of these topics is presented here. It should be noted that there are some developments within W3C which may impact these recommendations moving forward, notably within the Dataset Exchange Working Group (DXWG). Any further developments should be understood in the context of the considerations presented here. (What is anticipated is alignment between some of the various models discussed.)

Also, as CDIF supports a more complete description of provenance, it becomes possible to fully describe the process of data integration.
